Installing Ductless In A Great Room In Brevard, NC

We recently installed a single zone ductless mini split into a great room in a Brevard, NC home to supplement their current system. They could never get the room to be as comfortable as it should be, even though the rest of the house was completely fine.

Open floor plans in homes these days are all the rage. A combination of living room, family room, dining and kitchen, these wide open spaces help families spend more time together while each person does their own task. Mom can be making dinner while talking to the kids who are working on their homework, while Dad catches up on the news before everyone sits down together to eat.

But large open floor plans can be tricky to heat and cool. If you rely on baseboards, the areas close to the walls are warm but the center of the room is cold. If you want it to be cool throughout the room, you need to have great airflow with central air or window air conditioners, or you get pockets of space that are hot and cold. And if you have tall ceilings, that can cause another airflow problem!

Problem: The Great Room in this home in Brevard was uncomfortable- the homeowners wanted a heating and cooling solution that would help them get the most out of this space.

Solution: A single zone of Mitsubishi ductless heating and air conditioning will add the comfort the family needs and make this Great Room truly Great at last.

Families like this one need a cost-effective solution for this problem, and we were glad that the homeowners gave us a call here at Blue Ridge Heating & Air. Our experienced team came out to the home and knew immediately that a Mitsubishi Ductless Heating and Cooling system would give the family the comfort they needed throughout the space, and serve them well Winter, Summer, Spring, and Fall.

Why Ductless Mini Splits?

When you are considering adding heating and air conditioning to your home, the first thing to ask is what option will meet your needs? Sometimes all you might need is a space heater, or maybe a window air conditioner. While those options are inexpensive up front, they are pretty inefficient, which means they are energy hogs and use a lot of energy to keep you comfortable.

What you save up front, you pay for each and every month – and spend more time worrying about whether your comfort is going to break the budget this month! Especially in a great room like this one, cheaper solutions wouldn’t keep the whole room comfortable- and the homeowners would just be putting a bandaid on a larger problem.

Ductless Heat Pumps are Efficient

Ductless heating and cooling systems are super energy-efficient heat pumps, that use the ambient air temperature to transfer heat either into your home or out of your home, heating or cooling it as needed. Mitsubishi ductless systems run efficiently down to -13F and up to over 100F – meaning they work well in just about anything we see Mother Nature dish out in Brevard, Greenville, or really anywhere in the Carolinas.

More About Mini-Splits

These systems are sometimes referred to as mini-splits because they have two main components- an outdoor condenser unit and an indoor air distributor unit, often called a cassette or head.

The condenser unit is small and quiet, meaning you can mount it under a deck or near a patio, and not worry about the noise disrupting your enjoyment of these spaces. For this home, we were able to mount the unit off the ground as well, making it easier to keep the condenser unit free of leaves and debris, and making it easier to maintain.

What About Indoors?

In older construction like this home, the ceilings are not particularly high, so we needed to consider what option would give the family the maximum comfort throughout the great room, without taking up space on the walls.

Fortunately, Mitsubishi ductless systems have a variety of options you can choose from to get the comfort you need as well as fit your home and style. With the lower ceiling heights in this home, a flush-mounted air distribution cassette worked well.

We did not have to take up a lot of wall space and we could mount the unit in the ceiling, where the advanced sensors can monitor the temperature and humidity throughout the room, and make adjustments as needed. That will ensure the family is comfortable throughout the great room, not just in pockets like before.

Ductless Mini Splits Provide Comfort All Year Long

Best of all, Mitsubishi ductless systems can deliver both heating and cooling from one system. That means you can add just that touch of heating and cooling when you need it- making crispy, autumn mornings more comfortable, and late fall warm spells just as comfortable.

In the Spring, those early warm days no longer will leave the family sweltering- but they can add just a touch of AC when they need it- and never worry about the energy bills.

These high-efficiency ductless systems are up to 70% more efficient than baseboard heating and up to 30% more efficient than other AC solutions, so that means the family will see their energy bills go down- no matter what season it is. They can get full comfort in Winter or Summer, or a touch of comfort in the Spring and Fall- all with a touch of a button on the remote or by using a smartphone app.
