We Clean Up Our Competitors’ Messes

Why This “Brand New” Mini-Split Failed in Less Than A Year
A high-quality HVAC system is only as good as the expertise behind its installation. A few weeks ago, our Brevard team was called to a residence in Pisgah Forest, NC, to address a failing ductless mini-split system that was about installed roughly 7 months ago.
Problem:
The homeowner’s brand new mini-split was already non-functional and throwing error codes.
Our technician, Derek, discovered several critical “red flags” from the previous “Chuck-in-a-Truck” installation:
- Lack of Support: The unit had been installed using zipties without the necessary structural support or manufacturer-specified mounting.
- Unpermitted Work: The original installation was performed without a local building permit, meaning it had never been inspected for safety or code compliance.
- Premature Failure: The system was unreliable and repairs would be costly.

Solution:
A unit replacement.
📆 Install Date: March 19, 2026
🕒 Time to Complete: 7 Hrs
💰 Total Investment: $5,082.00
To make sure the homeowner would have a system that lasted for years, we performed a full-scale replacement and “code correction”. Here’s what we did:
- We installed a 1-ton Innovair Q32 Series Ductless System
- Replaced the faulty line sets with 30 feet of new, high-grade copper tubing to ensure efficient refrigerant flow.
- We pulled the proper permit to ensure the new installation met all North Carolina building codes and passed a rigorous safety inspection.
- We included a complimentary one-year Blue Ridge Comfort Maintenance Plan ($239 value) to protect the new investment.
What goes into an HVAC quotes and itemized bill?

Why Was This the Best Choice?
When a system is installed incorrectly without permits, the manufacturer’s warranty is often voided, and the safety risks are high. Given that repairing the old unit to meet safety standards would have cost around $3800 and a fresh start would have cost only $1000 more, the homeowner decided it was best to go with a new unit. This way, they would have the peace of mind that there wouldn’t be another breakdown later in the year.
We chose the Innovair Q32 because of its reputation for reliability in Western North Carolina’s varying climate.
4 Tips for Homeowners Facing HVAC Issues
Check for Permits
Always ask your contractor for proof of a permit. Mechanical permits are required for most HVAC replacements to ensure the work is inspected by a third party for your safety.
Verify Mounting and Support
Ductless units require specific wall brackets or ground pads. If your unit base looks uneven or vibrates excessively, it may lack the support needed to prevent internal damage.
Compare Repair vs. Replacement Costs
If a technician tells you that a “fix” for a system will cost thousands, ask for a comparison to see how much a new system would be. Sometimes it’s more cost-effective to invest that money into a new system than fix up something older.
Don’t Ignore Error Codes
Modern units use error codes to prevent failure. If your unit is flashing a code, turn it off and call a professional to prevent burning out the compressor.
