Installing A Ductless Mini Split In A Sugar Creek Garage

Installing A Ductless Mini Split In A Sugar Creek Garage

Installing A Ductless Mini Split In A Sugar Creek GarageOne of the ways to create more usable space in your home is to convert a garage space into living space. The homeowners of this nice ranch-style home in the Sugar Creek neighborhood in Greer wanted to convert their garage into a home office/flex space and make it usable all year long. They gave us a call here at Blue ridge Heating & Air to see what could be done to make sure the room wasn’t too cold in the winter or too hot in the summer.

Solutions for Heating & Cooling a Separate Space

There are lots of options to consider when you’re looking to heat and cool a particular area of your home.

  • You could add ductwork to your existing system, but if the system is not sized properly, that could lead to problems throughout your home, as the system is taxed by the new space, particularly an area like a garage or bonus room that may not be as well insulated as other parts of a home.
  • You could consider adding window AC and electric baseboards. These solutions can work, but they are not really efficient, so they can really drive up your energy bills, especially in spaces like a garage that has a concrete floor, that can be hard to heat and cool.
  • The best solution for many homes can be adding a single zone of Mitsubishi Ductless heating & air conditioning. This can provide heating and cooling to the space while keeping energy bills low.

Problem: The homeowners at this home in Sugar Creek in Greer wanted a heating and cooling solution for their garage, to make it comfortable all year long.

Solution: A single zone of Mitsubishi Ductless heating and cooling will make the garage a more comfortable space for all projects every day of the year!

Why Choose Ductless?

Mitsubishi Ductless systems are highly efficient heat pumps that can provide both heating and cooling to your home.  They are often called “Mini-splits” because they consist of two parts- an outdoor unit called a condenser and an indoor unit, often called a cassette or head. The head is often mounted high up on the wall, where it can monitor both the temperature and humidity in the room, and distribute the heated or cooled air evenly throughout the space, eliminating hot and cold spots.

Mitsubishi ductless systems are up to 70% more efficient than baseboard eating and 30% more efficient than window air conditioners, meaning you’ll get both heating and cooling comfort in the space, without adding a lot to your energy bill each month!

Installing a Ductless System

The Condenser Outside Connects To The Unit Inside When we spoke with the homeowners, we went over all the options, and suggested that a ductless heat pump system could give them the comfort they needed in the converted garage, while keeping energy bills under control, and it won’t tax the existing heating and cooling system for the rest of the home. They decided a single zone of Mitsubishi ductless heating and air conditioning would be the best option.

A single zone of ductless will help provide the comfort they need, while also allowing them to put the system into standby mode or even turn off completely when the space is not in use, saving a ton of money in energy, while not affecting the comfort level in the rest of the home.

The Process

The installation process took two days total. We installed the outdoor unit and mounted it up off the ground, to ensure it was easier to keep clean and prevent debris, sticks, grass and the like from getting inside, as you can see from the pictures below.

We also placed the indoor unit high on the wall, out of the way, with no visible lines, making for a clean look indoors. The unit’s location will help the advanced sensors monitor the room, and it can even be configured so it goes into standby mode when no one is in the space, helping you save even more energy. The unit is conveniently controlled from a handheld remote, or you can choose to add a thermostat or control it remotely through a smartphone app if you want, giving you all the comfort control you want at the touch of a button.

Affordable Comfort

One of the best things about a single zone of ductless is that it is a permanent solution- no changing out window AC units- and that it is affordable, especially because of its energy efficiency. Mitsubishi ductless systems are so high efficiency, they qualify for rebates from Duke Energy and for tax credits of up to $2,000 under the Inflation Reduction Act. That helps make adding extra efficiency more affordable up front, as well as keeping your monthly energy bills affordable each and every month.
