Installing A Two Zone Mini Split System In Cleveland, SC

Installing A Two Zone Mini Split System In Cleveland, SCWhen the homeowners of this contemporary home in Cleveland, SC gave us a call, they had an existing gas furnace that was not functioning well. They were looking for a solution that would heat and cool the top floor of the home.  They didn’t want to have to install separate heating and cooling systems.

When we started to talk about solutions, the homeowners also mentioned that they were using their garage as workshop space, and were hoping they could get heating and cooling for that room, to keep it comfortable and functional all year long.

Problem: This contemporary home in the Cliffridge neighborhood in Cleveland, SC needed a heating and cooling system for their top floor and a way to keep the garage comfortable to use as a workshop.

Solution: We installed a two zone Mitsubishi Mini-split system that can provide heating and air conditioning to keep these areas comfortable all year long!

Heat Pumps To Heat And Cool

Finding the best and most cost-effective solution for heating and cooling for your home can be tricky. If you have existing ductwork, a whole home traditional furnace and central air system might be right for you. Even for these homes, heat pump systems, like Mitsubishi Electric heat pump systems, can be an attractive alternative to gas furnaces.

Heat pumps work by using the temperature of the surrounding air to either add heat to your home or remove heat from inside, cooling your home in the process. These high-efficiency systems use electricity and an inverter system that can give you up to 70% increase in heating efficiency and up to 30% cooling over traditional systems, which translates directly into lower energy bills for you!

In addition, because these systems are so efficient, they qualify for rebates from your local energy company, and tax credits from the federal government under the Inflation Reduction Act, helping to reduce the cost of installation, while you also get to enjoy smaller energy bills every month!

Mini Splits For This Contemporary Home

This lovely home had a problem many homes have- the upper floor never seems to be as comfortable as you’d like it to be.  Top floors tend to get too hot in the summer and stay cold in the winter. And as is true in many homes, garages tend to have cement floors, poor insulation, and do not usually have separate heating and cooling, which makes them uncomfortable for large portions of the year.

Mini-split heat pump systems are a perfect solution for situations like this one.  They have two fundamental pieces- an outdoor condenser unit, and indoor cassettes or heads.  Each cassette creates a separate zone of heating and cooling that can be controlled independently from each other. One outdoor condenser unit can power multiple indoor heating and cooling units, making the system modular and flexible for a variety of homes.  And because each indoor head can be controlled individually, you could get heating in the garage while another person wants cooling on the upper floors- all customizable through a handheld remote or even a smart phone app.

Heating And Cooling A Top Floor- And Garage

The Garage Cassette Is Perfect For Heating And Cooling Because mini-split systems are “modular”,  we were able to put a wall-mounted head on the  upper floor of the home to provide heating and cooling for the bedroom, helping the homeowners to get a much better night’s sleep. Instead of a noisy window air conditioner, Mitsubishi ductless systems are whisper-quiet- at 25- 30db, you barely notice anything but the comfort when they turn on! The homeowner can adjust the level of cooling or that touch of heat on a cold morning to keep their bedroom the perfect temperature- and no longer have a big AC unit taking up a window half the year!

For the garage, we were able to install a ceiling cassette, minimizing the amount of space the unit takes up.  These systems contain advanced sensors that help monitor the heat and humidity in a space, and then are able to direct the heated or cool air to evenly heat or cool a room. This means no more hot or cold spots you get with other solutions like electric baseboards. And with smart sensors, you can even set up the system so it goes into standby mode when a room isn’t occupied- saving you money on energy!

Efficiency is the name of the game

The Condenser Sits Outside Delivering Air To The Units InsideFor the owners of this home, the new Mitsubishi mini-split system with two zones of heating and cooling will keep these problem areas of their home comfortable all year long. Better yet, the increased efficiency means they will be getting more comfort, but are likely to see their monthly energy bills go down! And with a ten year warranty, this system will be delivering them quiet comfort for years to come.
